The Kirsten Project

25 May '12

You may have seen a sneak peek of this if you follow us on twitter or facebook.

“Kirsten” is a video project shot in studio in collaboration with Trevor Meier. It was conceived to be an exploration of the line between still photography and moving images. Each scene with our model was composed as a still photograph but captured using high speed video to incorporate only limited elements of motion.

The Studio

08 May '12

We made a move to some new digs on the edge of Vancouver’s Railtown district a few months back. Still settling in and finishing up a few renos – but thought I’d post a few images of the space. If you follow the blog at all you may recognize it from some of the behind the scenes videos posted recently from a few of the projects we’ve had on the go (here and here).

… and a quick video clip from some of the office build-out that took us into the wee hours of morning on more than one occasion.

Inspired: The Vancouver School

24 April '12

While visiting the MoMA last week while in New York, I was reminded of some of the great artists from here in Vancouver such as Jeff Wall and Stan Douglas and the contributions they’ve made in elevating photography as an artform. Below are a couple favorites.

Stan Douglas:
Hastings Park, 16 July 1955 (Stan Douglas). 2008

Abbott & Cordova, 7 August 1971 (Stan Douglas). 2008

Jeff Wall:
A Sudden Gust of Wind (Jeff Wall). 1993

Dead Troops Talk (Jeff Wall). 1992

… also, if you’re in Vancouver and haven’t already checked it out – you have 1 week left to catch the Fred Herzog exhibit at the new Equinox Project Space, a fantastic (and huge) new addition to the Vancouver gallery scene.

Motion Shoot – Behind The Scenes

18 April '12

A quick behind the scenes look at more of the motion stuff we shot awhile back with long time friend and collaborator Trevor Meier to go along with our Athlete Series.
(RSS readers you may have to click here to jump to the video).

Notes for the gear geeks: we were shooting primarily at 300fps on the Red Epic along with 1.2k HMI’s (shooting at high speeds takes a ton of light).

Huge thanks to everyone who helped out with this.

You can view the final video here.

Motion Project Screen Shots

05 April '12

Posts have been a bit infrequent lately as we’ve been pretty swamped. In addition to our stills work we have a couple different motion projects we’re chipping away at right now, so I figured I’d throw up a couple frame grabs from those. We’ll be sharing the actual videos with you as soon as we’re able.

Project 1 looks a bit like this…

… and the other a bit like this.
